Here’s how you can use WhatsApp’s new favorite feature for calls and chats
WhatsApp, a widely used communication tool by billions worldwide, continues to enhance user experience by introducing new features. The latest addition, ‘favourites’, allows users to easily access select contacts. This update follows the recent launch of Context Cards, aimed at improving security for users added to unfamiliar group chats.
“Starting today, you can quickly find the most important people and groups at the top of the calls tab and in the filter of your conversations. Whether it’s your family group chats or your best friend, your ‘favorites’ are the same in your chats and calls, so you can choose a shortcut from the calls tab as well,” the company shared in a blog post on Tuesday.
Favorite contacts appear at the top of the list in WhatsApp chats and calls. In this way, users can filter the most contacted persons and prioritize important messages and calls. This helps to organize the conversations better, when the messages of frequently taken people appear above.
This feature can be used for any saved contact and can be moved to the Favorites category. The instant messaging platform has added a favorite filter next to the All, Unread and Groups filters.
Steps to use the Favorites feature
Here are the simple steps to set contacts as favorites:
Open the WhatsApp app and click on the favorite filter at the top of the chat tab.
Select the contacts and groups you want to mark as favorites. Click the favorite button to see the selected contacts.
If you want to set contacts as favorites in the WhatsApp calls tab, click the Add favorites filter and add the contacts you want.
Go to settings, tap the favorite option and click Add to Favorites to manage your favorited contacts. This allows you to make changes and rearrange your favorite contacts.
Many users have already started using this new feature, but it will be available to all users in the coming weeks. It is expected to get a positive response from users as it would save time spent searching for important calls and messages.
Features in the testing phase
In addition to the release of Favorites, it has been speculated that WhatsApp is testing new features such as real-time translation of messages, transcription of voice conversations and video notes in the camera interface. As these features are in the testing phase, only beta testers of the Google Play Beta program can use them.
WhatsApp is expected to stop testing and release these features soon.
